Air Chief Marshal AP Singh felicitated Squadron Leader Saanya at Air Headquarters, recognising her attainment of this elite status. In the IAF’s instructor grading system, Category-C denotes trainee or probationary instructors, Category-B covers standard flying instructors, and Category-A represents the top tier. This grade is reserved for highly experienced instructors capable of training other instructors and assessing advanced flying skills.
Earning Cat-A demands extensive flying hours, advanced technical and instructional competence, and successful evaluation by senior IAF examiners. As a Cat-A QFI, Squadron Leader Saanya is now qualified to train and evaluate pilots in advanced techniques while contributing to the maintenance of high standards of flight safety and operational readiness at IAF training establishments.
Public service records indicate she was commissioned into the Flying branch on 20 June 2015 from the 42 SSC (W) FP Course, promoted to Flight Lieutenant in 2017 and Squadron Leader in 2021. An accomplished transport pilot, her elevation to the highest instructional category builds on earlier progress by women aviators, including the first woman fighter pilot to earn a QFI badge.
The achievement underscores the steady expansion of women officers into demanding roles spanning fighter, transport, helicopter, flight testing, command, and instructional appointments.
