A major counter-terrorism operation in the densely forested terrain of Rajouri has entered its sixth consecutive day, underlining the persistent security challenges faced by Indian forces in the Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing encounter, which began last Saturday, is being conducted in the Dori Maal area of Gambhir Mughalan following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of heavily armed terrorists.
According to security officials, the operation was launched jointly by the Indian Army and other security agencies after surveillance and local intelligence indicated militant movement in the rugged and heavily wooded sector. Since then, troops have been engaged in sustained search-and-destroy operations amid difficult topographical and weather conditions.
The prolonged nature of the encounter highlights the operational complexities of anti-terror missions in the Rajouri-Poonch belt, an area that has witnessed renewed militant activity over the past few years. Dense foliage, natural caves and steep mountainous terrain have historically provided tactical advantages to infiltrating terrorist groups attempting to evade detection and prolong engagements with security forces.
Security agencies have reportedly tightened the cordon around the suspected hideout zones while employing advanced surveillance equipment and aerial reconnaissance to prevent any escape attempts. Reinforcements and specialised units are understood to have been deployed to maintain operational pressure on the terrorists believed to be trapped within the area.
While official details regarding casualties or the exact number of terrorists involved have not yet been disclosed, authorities continue to maintain high alert across adjoining sectors to rule out any possibility of breakout movements.
The operation once again underscores the Indian security establishment’s sustained focus on neutralising terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir and maintaining stability in strategically sensitive border districts. Officials have reiterated that operations will continue until the area is fully sanitised and all threats are eliminated.
