In a significant vision towards environmental conservation and enhancement of green cover, Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, Commandant, Army War College (AWC), Mhow launched a huge green initiative in June this year on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Under his sustained campaign, a team of AWC, led by Lt Col Bijender (Arboriculture Officer) conducted a mega plantation drive at the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore on Friday. Around 1,000 saplings were planted and distributed under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” and “Har Ghar Do Ped” campaigns.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation by Dr Pratosh Bansal, Director, IET, soldiers, staff and students. The participants not only planted saplings but also pledged to ensure their protection and regular upkeep.
Under Lt Gen Chandpuria’s vision and guidance, AWC, Mhow has been undertaking a comprehensive green initiative for environmental conservation and enhancing green cover. The initiative includes extensive plantation drives at various locations as well as innovative activities such as the ‘Eco-Walk with plantation enroute’. Approximately 26,000 saplings have been planted since June 5 till Friday under this sustained campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Col Bijender and Dr Pratosh Bansal highlighted that plantation and environmental conservation are not the responsibility of any single organisation, but a collective responsibility of every individual in society. They emphasised that concerted efforts by the Armed Forces, educational institutions, students and the community can significantly enhance green cover and contribute towards ensuring a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
The comprehensive initiative continues to promote environmental awareness, community participation through public participation and sustainable development, reinforcing the commitment towards building a greener and healthier future.
