Reaffirming its commitment beyond conventional military operations, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has mounted an extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission across the flood-ravaged states of Assam and Nagaland, providing life-saving support to communities cut off by severe flooding and landslides.
According to official information released by the IAF, its helicopter fleet has rescued and safely evacuated 458 stranded civilians over the past ten days while delivering more than nine tonnes of essential relief supplies to inaccessible areas. The operations have been carried out under challenging weather conditions, with aircrews navigating heavy rainfall, poor visibility, and difficult terrain to sustain relief efforts.
The ongoing mission highlights the Indian Air Force’s capability to rapidly mobilize air assets in support of civil authorities during natural disasters. Working in close coordination with the Indian Army, state administrations, and disaster management agencies, the IAF has ensured the timely evacuation of vulnerable residents while transporting food, medicines, and other critical supplies to affected populations.
Floods triggered by intense monsoon rainfall have disrupted normal life across several parts of Northeast India, damaging infrastructure, inundating habitations, and isolating numerous villages.
