Lt Gen Harjeet Singh Sahi, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, has assumed the appointment of Chief of Staff at Headquarters, Western Command. He succeeds Lt Gen Puneet Ahuja, AVSM, SM, VSM, in the key operational role.
The ceremonial change of appointment was marked by a solemn tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes. Both Lt Gen Sahi and Lt Gen Ahuja laid wreaths at Veer Smriti, the war memorial at Western Command headquarters, paying homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
Lt Gen Sahi brings with him a distinguished career spanning over three decades, marked by exceptional command and staff experience. Immediately prior to his current assignment, he served as Commandant of the prestigious Army War College in Mhow. During his tenure there, he was credited with implementing several impactful initiatives in the domains of professional military training, infrastructure development, and personnel welfare, further strengthening the institution’s reputation as a centre of excellence for doctrinal and operational education.
The Western Command, headquartered in Chandimandir, is one of the Indian Army’s most critical formations, entrusted with guarding India’s western borders. The Chief of Staff plays a pivotal role in overseeing operational planning, logistics, and coordination of the Command’s combat-ready forces. Lt Gen Sahi’s extensive operational exposure and academic contributions are expected to further enhance the Command’s readiness in a dynamic regional security environment.
Lt Gen Puneet Ahuja, who moves on after a successful stint, has been commended for his stewardship during a period of heightened operational preparedness along the western frontiers.
This leadership change comes at a time when the Indian Army continues to modernise its warfighting capabilities while maintaining an unrelenting focus on operational alertness and troop welfare.
