Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, Commandant of the Army War College (AWC), Mhow, delivered an inspiring opening address to participants of the Higher Command Course, emphasizing the need for a ‘Whole of Nation’ approach, enhanced jointness among the armed forces, and adoption of innovative technologies to prepare for the evolving character of future warfare.
Addressing senior military officers undergoing one of the Indian Army’s premier professional military education programmes, Lt Gen Chandpuria highlighted the rapidly changing security environment and the growing importance of technology-driven military capabilities. He urged course members to develop a forward-looking mindset and cultivate expertise in emerging domains that are increasingly shaping modern conflicts.The Commandant stressed that future wars would demand seamless integration across the military, government institutions, industry, academia, and civil society. He underscored that national security can no longer be viewed solely through a military lens and called for greater synergy among all stakeholders in pursuit of national objectives. The emphasis on a ‘Whole of Nation’ framework aligns with contemporary strategic thinking that seeks to integrate military, economic, technological and societal strengths to address complex security challenges.
Lt Gen Chandpuria also encouraged officers to embrace innovation and remain technologically adept as artificial intelligence, information warfare, cyber capabilities and other emerging technologies continue to transform the battlefield. His address reinforced the importance of adaptive leadership and strategic thinking in preparing future commanders for increasingly complex operational environments.The Higher Command Course at the Army War College is designed to prepare selected senior officers for higher command and staff appointments at operational and strategic levels, focusing on national security, military strategy and leadership development.
