Skyward Courage- DRDO’s Breakthrough Innovation in Parachute System Demonstrated at Nyoma Drop Zone, Ladakh

In the sub-zero solitude of Eastern Ladakh, where thin air and treacherous winds challenge human endurance, history was made at one of the world’s highest operational drop zones. The Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), a specialized laboratory of India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), executed a high-altitude combat freefall trial of the Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) at Nyoma (Mudh Drop Zone).

Overcoming freezing temperatures of -15°C at 22,000 feet above mean sea level (AMSL), the elite flight test team, led by Chief Test Jumper Wing Commander Rahul Jha alongside Master Warrant Officers RJ Singh, and MWO Vivek Tiwari, leapt into the void. Deploying the canopy at 20,000 feet, the jumpers landed safely at 13,700 feet, demonstrating flawless tactical precision and system reliability.

Beyond the technical marvel of an integrated, 100% indigenous ecosystem, featuring an advanced para-computer, specialized high-altitude oxygen system, and thermal combat jumpsuits, this mission carries a profound message of empowerment.
