In a stellar display of precision and composure, Sejal Raju Kamble, a cadet from the Indian Army’s prestigious Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in Mhow, emerged as the Junior World Champion in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2026 in Suhl, Germany.

Kamble clinched the gold medal on Thursday, June 18, dominating the final with a commanding score of 240.2. Fellow AMU cadet Himanshi secured the bronze medal in the same event, while another Army cadet, Navya, contributed to India’s team gold alongside teammates Vanshika Chaudhary and Sanskriti Bana.

The Indian contingent made a powerful statement on the opening day of the championships, which run from June 16 to 26. Kamble qualified strongly with 573-16x, advancing to the medal round where she outshone the field, including Bulgaria’s Maria Encheva Atanasova, who took silver with 235.8.

An AMU press release highlighted the achievement, noting that Kamble’s victory underscores the unit’s status as one of India’s leading shooting nurseries. The AMU has a rich legacy of producing international luminaries, including Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar and former Army shooter Lt Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

This latest triumph marks another milestone in Kamble’s rapid ascent in international shooting. Earlier in 2026, she secured medals at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo, cementing her position as one of India’s most promising young pistol shooters.

Indian shooting officials and enthusiasts have lauded the young talents for their disciplined training and mental fortitude under pressure. The multiple medals in the women’s 10m air pistol, one individual gold, one bronze, and a team gold, signal a promising campaign for India’s junior squad at the prestigious event.

As the championship continues, all eyes remain on India’s young shooters, who are carrying forward the nation’s growing reputation as a shooting powerhouse on the global stage. Kamble’s world title not only brings pride to the Indian Army but also inspires the next generation of athletes from Mhow and beyond.

The shooting fraternity feels that after Col C Naren Babu took over AMU’s command, its shooters have again started showing their prowess in all shooting events of national and international level.
