Mumbai: In a significant step towards deepening collaboration between the Indian Armed Forces and the domestic defence industry, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), visited the advanced manufacturing facilities of Godrej Aerospace at Vikhroli, Mumbai. The visit underscored the pivotal role of private sector innovation in advancing India’s self-reliance goals in aerospace and defence.
During the tour, Air Marshal Dixit reviewed the company’s state-of-the-art capabilities in aero engines, actuators, and space systems. Godrej Aerospace, a division of the Godrej Enterprises Group, has established itself as a key player in precision engineering, notably as the only private Indian firm with the capacity to manufacture all modules of an aero engine. The Air Marshal lauded the company’s commitment to indigenisation, highlighting how such efforts align closely with national priorities for technological sovereignty.
“This visit reinforces the critical importance of industry-defence forces collaboration in fostering alignment with national priorities,” a statement from the visit emphasised. Air Marshal Dixit praised Godrej’s focus on precision engineering and its contributions to developing critical aerospace technologies that are essential for India’s strategic autonomy.
The engagement comes at a time when India is accelerating its ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative in Defence. With rising emphasis on indigenous design, development, and manufacturing (IDDM), partnerships like these are instrumental in reducing reliance on imports and building a robust domestic supply chain. Godrej’s facilities support not only military programmes but also space technologies for ISRO and high-value exports to global OEMs such as Boeing, Safran, GE Aerospace, and Rolls-Royce.
Experts view such high-level interactions as more than ceremonial; they facilitate better understanding of operational requirements, streamline technology absorption, and accelerate the integration of private sector advancements into frontline capabilities. As India aims to position itself as a global aerospace hub, visits like Air Marshal Dixit’s signal a maturing ecosystem where innovation, precision, and strategic collaboration converge.
Godrej Aerospace officials expressed their dedication to supporting the armed forces’ modernisation needs through continued R&D in actuators and complex aerospace modules. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper synergies in upcoming programmes, including next-generation combat aircraft and space initiatives.
Defence Chronicle remains committed to tracking India’s journey towards defence self-reliance.
