Bareilly, India: The Army Training Command (ARTRAC) of the Indian Army continues to sharpen leadership capabilities across its ranks, as the Junior Leaders Academy in Bareilly concluded its latest Potential Subedar Major Course on March 17, 2026.
The four-week intensive professional program brought together Subedar Majors, equivalent ranks, and prospective Subedar Majors from multiple services, including the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Assam Rifles, and the Special Frontier Force. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on jointness and inter-service synergy within India’s defense framework.

Designed as a focused leadership capsule, the course aimed to enhance participants’ command acumen, deepen inter-service understanding, and strengthen battlefield preparedness amid rapidly evolving security challenges. The curriculum emphasized the pivotal role of Junior Leaders in maintaining cohesion, discipline, and operational effectiveness at the unit level.
Addressing the graduating cohort, Brigadier Gaurav Kapoor, Commandant of the Junior Leaders Academy, underscored the strategic importance of Subedar Majors in shaping force dynamics. He highlighted their critical position as the bridge between officers and troops, particularly in navigating the complexities of modern warfare and shifting geopolitical realities.
Recognizing excellence among the participants, Subedar Major Puran Singh of Army Air Defence was adjudged the “Overall Best Student” of the course.

The completion of the program marks another step in the Indian military’s broader effort to invest in human capital and leadership development, ensuring that its Junior Leaders remain adaptive, resilient, and mission-ready in an increasingly complex global security environment.
