Chaubattia, Uttarakhand: The joint military exercise Dharma Guardian 2026 between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) is progressing at full momentum at the Chaubattia military station in Uttarakhand.
The annual bilateral drill, now in its latest edition, is centred on enhancing tactical interoperability and counter-terrorism capabilities in complex, high-threat operational environments. Troops from both armies are conducting coordinated assault drills, close-quarter battle (CQB) training, and precision manoeuvre exercises, sharpening their ability to operate seamlessly as a combined force.
Official updates from the Indian Army state that the exercise is strengthening joint readiness, refining standard operating procedures, and enabling the exchange of professional expertise between the two contingents. The rugged, forested terrain of Chaubattia provides an ideal setting for realistic scenario-based training that mirrors contemporary sub-conventional threats.
The ongoing drills underscore the deepening defence partnership between India and Japan. Dharma Guardian 2026 reaffirms the shared commitment of both nations to regional stability, the promotion of peace, and the maintenance of a rules-based security order through sustained bilateral military cooperation.
