Upper Subansiri, Arunachal Pradesh: In a continued effort to strengthen community outreach and grassroots development in remote regions, the Spearhead Division under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps has established a Community Fitness Centre and Gym in Gelemo village of Upper Subansiri district.
The initiative has been undertaken as part of Operation Sadbhavana, a flagship programme aimed at fostering goodwill, improving living standards, and supporting socio-economic development in far-flung areas. The newly inaugurated facility is expected to significantly enhance access to fitness infrastructure for local residents, particularly youth, in this remote part of Arunachal Pradesh.

Gelemo, located in a geographically challenging region with limited access to modern amenities, has long faced constraints in terms of recreational and health facilities. The establishment of a dedicated fitness centre marks a meaningful step toward addressing these gaps. The initiative is also aligned with the broader objective of encouraging a healthy lifestyle and constructive engagement among local communities.
Defence sources highlighted that such projects not only promote physical well-being but also strengthen bonds between the armed forces and civilian populations. By creating opportunities for youth to engage in positive activities, the Army continues to contribute to nation-building beyond its primary security mandate.

The Spear Corps, headquartered in the eastern sector, has consistently played a pivotal role in executing developmental and humanitarian initiatives alongside its operational responsibilities. The Gelemo fitness centre stands as another example of the Indian Army’s commitment to inclusive growth and community empowerment in India’s border areas.
