The Indian Air Force has announced a fresh recruitment drive targeting the country’s top sporting talent, inviting applications from unmarried male athletes to join as Agniveervayu under the Sports Intake 02/2026 program.
According to the official notification shared by the force, the initiative seeks “outstanding sportsmen” who can bring both athletic excellence and discipline to the service. The Agniveervayu (Sports) entry is part of India’s broader Agnipath Scheme, which aims to recruit young personnel across the armed forces on a short-term basis while fostering a culture of fitness, skill, and national service.
Online applications will open at 10:00 AM on March 23, 2026, and close at 5:00 PM on March 29, 2026. Candidates are required to submit their applications through the official recruitment portal, where detailed eligibility criteria, sports disciplines, and selection procedures have been published.
The recruitment drive underscores the Indian Air Force’s continued emphasis on integrating sports excellence into its ranks. Over the years, the force has produced and supported numerous athletes who have gone on to represent India at national and international levels, strengthening both military and sporting prestige.
Officials note that beyond athletic achievement, candidates will be evaluated on their ability to adapt to the rigorous demands of military life. Those selected will undergo training designed to develop not only their sporting capabilities but also operational readiness and discipline.
The Agniveervayu (Sports) intake reflects a growing recognition within India’s defense establishment of the role sports can play in building resilience, teamwork, and leadership, qualities essential both on the field and in service to the nation.
