Aizawl, Mizoram: In a significant step towards deepening civil-military synergy in India’s strategically vital Northeastern region, Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 101 Area, interacted with General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, YSM, the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, on Tuesday.
The high-level courtesy call and discussion took place at Lok Bhavan under the aegis of Eastern Command. The two senior military leaders — one serving and one veteran — focused on strengthening cooperation and security frameworks through the prism of military-civilian fusion.
According to an official release by Eastern Command, the interaction centred on “aspects related to strengthening cooperation and security as part of military civilian fusion.” The engagement is seen as a proactive measure to ensure seamless coordination between the Armed Forces and civil administration in one of the most sensitive frontier states sharing international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa, who assumed command of Headquarters 101 Area in October 2025, oversees critical operational responsibilities in the Eastern theatre. His meeting with Governor General (Dr) V K Singh — a highly decorated former Chief of the Army Staff and former Union Minister — assumes added importance given the latter’s deep understanding of both military operations and governance challenges in the Northeast.
Military-civilian fusion has emerged as a key doctrinal and operational priority for the Indian Armed Forces, particularly in the Northeast, where development initiatives, border infrastructure, disaster response, and internal security are closely interlinked. Such interactions facilitate better alignment on issues ranging from infrastructure development along the Line of Actual Control and international borders to countering proxy threats and enhancing situational awareness at the grassroots level.
Eastern Command, responsible for guarding India’s eastern frontiers stretching from Sikkim to the Myanmar border, has been consistently emphasising whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approaches to national security. The 101 Area, with its headquarters strategically located to cover key sectors, plays a pivotal role in this architecture.
The meeting is part of a series of regular engagements between senior military commanders and constitutional authorities in the region aimed at fostering mutual trust and operational synergy. Officials noted that both leaders exchanged views on contemporary security challenges and the way forward for coordinated efforts in capacity building and community outreach.

Photographs released by Eastern Command and the Governor’s office show the two generals in cordial conversation, underscoring the warmth and professional respect that marked the interaction.
`This engagement reinforces the Indian Army’s commitment to acting as a stabilising and developmental partner in the Northeast, ensuring that security and progress move hand in hand — a cornerstone of the government’s ‘Act East’ policy and broader national security strategy.
As India continues to modernise its defence posture along the eastern borders, such civil-military dialogues at the highest levels remain crucial in building a robust, integrated response to emerging challenges in the region.
