CDS Gen Anil Chauhan Reviews Anti-Infiltration Grid and Operational Posture in North Kashmir, Stresses Multi-Domain Readiness

New Delhi: General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), undertook a detailed operational visit to forward areas in North Kashmir to personally assess the anti-infiltration grid and the overall combat readiness of troops deployed along the Line of Control (LoC). The visit, conducted in the last 48 hours, reflects the Indian military’s continued emphasis on proactive border management amid a fluid security environment.According to official military channels, Gen Chauhan was given an extensive briefing by senior formation commanders on the evolving threat landscape, the current security dynamics in the region, and the posture of units to respond swiftly to any emerging challenges.

The assessment focused on the layered counter-infiltration architecture, a critical component of India’s defence strategy in Jammu and Kashmir, which integrates real-time intelligence, physical barriers, technological surveillance, and rapid-response teams. In his address to officers and troops of the Corps, the CDS underscored the strategic shift required to confront future conflicts. “Futuristic challenges demand that we prepare for multi-domain warfare,” he told the assembled personnel, according to the official readout. He identified jointness among the Army, Navy and Air Force, technology integration, and rigorous, realistic training as the three non-negotiable pillars of India’s operational philosophy.

Gen Chauhan particularly exhorted soldiers manning the forward posts to sustain “relentless vigilance and operational dominance” along the LoC. He directed them to pre-empt, intercept and decisively eliminate any inimical intent before it could materialise into a threat, a clear directive that aligns with the Indian Army’s long-standing doctrine of proactive defence in high-altitude and forested terrain.

The visit assumes added significance in the context of the CDS’s mandate, instituted in 2019, to foster tri-service synergy and ensure that India’s armed forces remain ahead of the technological curve. North Kashmir, encompassing sensitive sectors such as Kupwara, Baramulla and parts of Uri, has historically witnessed calibrated infiltration attempts supported by cross-border elements. The region’s complex topography and proximity to the LoC make constant evaluation of the anti-infiltration grid an operational necessity rather than a periodic exercise.

Defence analysts note that such hands-on visits by the CDS serve multiple purposes. They provide the apex military leadership with unfiltered ground-level feedback, reinforce command intent down to the junior-most ranks, and signal to adversaries that India maintains an uncompromising posture on its northern frontiers. General Anil Chauhan, a highly decorated officer with extensive experience in counter-insurgency and conventional operations, has made several such forward-area visits since assuming office. His latest trip to North Kashmir reinforces the message that while India remains committed to peace and stability, its forces are fully geared, across domains, to safeguard national interests with precision and resolve. The Indian Army has not released photographs or further details of the visit, consistent with standard operational security protocols in active counter-terror and border management zones.
