In a heartening display of pride and encouragement for the youth of India’s Northeast, the Assam Rifles recently organized a special felicitation ceremony at its Sector Headquarters in Churachandpur, Manipur, to honour a newly commissioned officer from the region.Lieutenant Obed Thangminsiam, a native of Hiangzou village in Churachandpur district, was celebrated for his successful commissioning into the Indian Army’s prestigious 10 Guards regiment. The young officer passed out from the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai on March 7, 2026, marking the culmination of rigorous pre-commission training that transforms cadets into commissioned leaders ready to serve the nation. The ceremony, presided over by the Sector Commander Brigadier S. Prashanth, who highlighted Lt. Thangminsiam’s exceptional qualities of dedication, resilience, and determination.

In his address, the Commander extended warm congratulations and best wishes for a distinguished career ahead, while urging the youth of Manipur to take inspiration from this achievement. Such milestones, he emphasized, demonstrate that perseverance and hard work can overcome challenges and open doors to national service, even from remote villages.Hailing from a close-knit community in one of Manipur’s hill districts, Lt. Thangminsiam’s journey resonates deeply in a region where the armed forces maintain a strong, multifaceted presence through units like the Assam Rifles, often called the “Sentinels of the Northeast.” The force plays a dual role in internal security and community outreach, frequently supporting local aspirations through initiatives in education, sports, and youth motivation. This felicitation underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to recognizing talent from every corner of the country, particularly from the Northeast, where such successes help foster greater integration, pride, and aspiration among younger generations. Lt. Thangminsiam’s entry into the elite 10 Guards, one of the Indian Army’s oldest and most decorated infantry regiments, known for its valor and discipline, adds to the growing representation of officers from Manipur and neighboring states in the officer cadre.

As Manipur and the broader Northeast continue to navigate complex socio-political landscapes, stories like Lt. Obed Thangminsiam’s serve as powerful symbols of hope, unity, and the enduring call to serve the nation. His achievement not only brings pride to his family, village, and community but also stands as an encouraging example for aspiring youth across the region to pursue excellence in defense and beyond.
