Army War College Mhow’s IW Division Hosts Media Capsule to Strengthen Cognitive Domain Operations

Mhow, MP: The Information Warfare (IW) Division of the Army War College (AWC), Mhow, organised a specialised Media Capsule as part of its ongoing IW Course, bringing together military officers and media professionals to sharpen capabilities in perception shaping and cognitive domain operations.

According to an official update shared by the Army War College Mhow on X, officers from the Indian Armed Forces, personnel from friendly foreign nations, and journalists participated in the capsule. The initiative is designed to foster seamless coordination between the armed forces and the media fraternity while developing a broader global outlook in the rapidly evolving domain of information warfare.

The Media Capsule forms a key component of the IW Course, which trains participants in the nuances of modern conflict where influence over minds and narratives often proves as decisive as kinetic operations. By integrating serving officers with journalists and international counterparts, the programme aims to build shared understanding and operational synergy in the cognitive domain, the battleground of perceptions, narratives, and public opinion that increasingly defines strategic outcomes.

Experts on the issues of Defence and Strategy view the event as a forward-looking step by the Indian Army to institutionalise whole-of-nation coordination in information operations. In an era of hybrid threats, deepfakes, and real-time global information flows, effective perception management requires close collaboration between military planners, strategic communicators, and credible media voices. The inclusion of officers from friendly foreign nations further underscores India’s commitment to building multilateral partnerships in this critical non-kinetic sphere.

The Army War College, a premier training institution of the Indian Army located in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, has been at the forefront of professional military education. Its IW Division has progressively expanded its focus on contemporary challenges ranging from psychological operations to digital influence campaigns. The current Media Capsule reflects this evolution, positioning the Indian Armed Forces to respond more effectively to threats in the information environment.

The initiative has received prominent visibility through the official X handle of the Army War College, with tags to the Army Training Command (@artrac_ia) and the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (@adgpi), highlighting its significance within the broader defence ecosystem. This collaborative platform not only enhances professional skills but also strengthens the vital bridge between India’s defence establishment and the fourth estate, ensuring that future operations in the cognitive domain are conducted with greater precision, credibility, and strategic coherence.
