Bishnupur, Manipur: In a continued effort to strengthen community outreach and improve living standards in remote regions, the Indian Army has established a large-capacity water purification facility in Manipur under its flagship civic action initiative, Operation Sadbhavana.
The project, executed by the Red Shield Division of Spear Corps, has brought a 12,000-litre Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration system to Tronglaobi village in Bishnupur. The installation is expected to significantly enhance access to safe and clean drinking water for the local population, addressing a critical need in the region.

Manipur, like many parts of India’s northeastern belt, faces persistent challenges related to water quality and infrastructure. By introducing a high-capacity filtration system, the initiative aims to reduce waterborne diseases and improve overall public health outcomes, particularly in rural communities where such facilities are often limited.
Operation Sadbhavana, which translates to “goodwill,” has long served as a cornerstone of the Indian Army’s engagement strategy in sensitive and underserved areas. Through projects spanning healthcare, education, infrastructure, and livelihood support, the program seeks to foster trust and cooperation between local communities and the armed forces.
The latest initiative in Bishnupur underscores the evolving role of the military beyond conventional security duties, extending into humanitarian assistance and development support. Officials noted that access to clean drinking water is not only a public health imperative but also a key driver of social stability and economic well-being.

As the Red Shield Division continues its outreach efforts under Spear Corps, such projects highlight the growing intersection of security and development, where ensuring basic amenities like safe water becomes integral to long-term peace and community resilience in the region.
