Vadodara, Gujarat: Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Southern Command, visited the Vadodara Military Station and conducted a detailed review of the operational preparedness of the ‘First In Battle’ Air Defence Brigade.
The Army Commander was briefed on the formation’s state-of-the-art air defence systems and its accelerated technology absorption initiatives, specifically tailored to dominate the rapidly evolving aerial battlespace. Officials familiar with the visit highlighted the brigade’s seamless integration of modern equipment into operational frameworks, underscoring the Indian Army’s proactive approach to maintaining a decisive edge in multi-domain operations.
Lt Gen Jain commended the brigade for sustaining a high state of mission readiness through the effective absorption and fielding of new technology equipment. He particularly appreciated the formation’s professionalism and combat excellence in adapting to contemporary threats, where traditional air defence paradigms are being reshaped by unmanned aerial systems, hypersonic technologies, and integrated sensor networks.

This visit assumes significance as it comes shortly after Lt Gen Jain assumed command of Southern Command on April 1, 2026, succeeding Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, who has taken over as Vice Chief of the Army Staff. The inspection reflects the new Army Commander’s immediate focus on frontline formations responsible for safeguarding India’s western and southern flanks, where air defence plays a pivotal role in protecting vital assets and ensuring battlefield dominance.
